LEGISLATIVE INTENT/PURPOSE:
WHEREAS, the Wilmington Police Department (“WPD”) is requesting funds in the amount of $20,000 to purchase a mobile radio repeater which will allow its public safety radios to function in older metal and concrete buildings which do not have bi-directional antennas; and,
WHEREAS, the WPD is requesting an additional $20,000 to cover the costs to upfit a pick-up truck to be used as a rapid response vehicle for its bomb squad; and,
WHEREAS, the funds for these expenditures were not included in the FY24 budget, nor are any grant funds available to cover the cost of these expenses, but are available through NC Drug Tax Revenue.
THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED:
THAT, the following appropriation, in the total amount of $40,000, is hereby made to the Special Purpose Fund for the purchase of a mobile radio repeater and the upfit of a pick-up truck to be used as a rapid response vehicle for the bomb squad, funded by NC Drug Tax Revenue, and that the following revenue is available to meet this appropriation.
