LEGISLATIVE INTENT/PURPOSE:
Jawesome Entertainment LLC., doing business as the Wilmington Sharks, have an agreement with the City of Wilmington for the use of Buck Hardee Field. The Sharks play in the Coastal Plain League, a collegiate summer baseball league featuring top players from across the nation. The Sharks are inaugural members of the Coastal Plain League, having played all of their home games at Buck Hardee Field since 1997.
The Sharks’ current agreement contains a provision allowing for the sale and consumption of beer and unfortified wine, pursuant to Section 6-12, Chapter Six of the Wilmington City Code. This authority was granted via a resolution adopted by City Council on April 19, 2011.
The Sharks have requested to have the ability to add mixed drinks to their concessions menu to expand and diversify drink menu options for purchase by the public. This change would be consistent with alcoholic beverage service at other City venues such as Live Oak Bank Pavilion, the Hugh Morton Amphitheater and Thalian Hall.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
THAT, the City Manager has the authority to amend the City of Wilmington’s agreement with Jawesome Entertainment, LLC. to allow for the sale and consumption of mixed beverages at Buck Hardee Field, subject to the provisions outlined in the April 29, 2011 resolution allowing for the sale and consumption of beer and unfortified wine.
