Resolution Authorizing the City to Renew the Interlocal Agreement with New Hanover County for the Operation of the Forensic Lab

LEGISLATIVE INTENT/PURPOSE:
The Wilmington Police Department (WPD) is requesting to renew the agreement with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office for the operation of the WPD Forensic Lab. The original agreement began on July 1, 2019, with the option of 4 additional years which ends June 30, 2024. The term for the proposed renewal shall commence on July 1, 2024, and continue through June 30, 2025. The City’s portion equals 40% of the operational expenses with the County’s portion being 60% of those same expenses. Parties will agree on any significant improvements or expansions to the lab prior to those costs being included in the shared operating costs.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
THAT, the City is hereby authorized to renew the Interlocal Agreement with New Hanover County for the operation of the Forensic Lab for another term of July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025; and,
THAT, the City’s contribution for the term of the Agreement shall not exceed $293,173 for FY25 and the funding is authorized contingent upon the adoption of the FY25 budget.
