Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Apply for a New Hanover Community Endowment Grant in the Amount of $2,758,200 for a Three Year Workforce Housing Voucher Program

LEGISLATIVE INTENT/PURPOSE:
WHEREAS, the City of Wilmington is eligible to apply for a New Hanover Community Endowment Grant in the amount of $2,758,200 to implement a three (3) year workforce housing voucher program to provide rental assistance to sworn officers; and,
WHEREAS, no local match is not required; and,
WHEREAS, this program has the potential to reduce crime in neighborhoods and to assist with workforce housing, both of which fall under two focus areas identified in the City of Wilmington strategic plan; and,
WHEREAS, this grant proposal also closely aligns with the Endowment’s affordable housing strategy.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
THAT, the City Manager is hereby authorized to apply for a New Hanover Community Endowment Grant in the amount of $2,758,200 for a three year workforce housing voucher program for sworn police officers.
THAT, the City Manager is hereby authorized to accept the grant, and to execute the grant agreement, if the City is awarded the grant.
THAT, the City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to carry out the requirements of the grant.
