Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Enter Into a Memorandum of Understanding with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department for the Justice Assistance Grant Program

LEGISLATIVE INTENT/PURPOSE:
WHEREAS, the City has an opportunity to apply for a grant award from the United States Department of Justice, Justice Assistance Grant (“JAG”) Program; and,
WHEREAS, based on federal guidelines, the grant application is required to be a joint application with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department; and,
WHEREAS, the City will act as the lead agency submitting the grant application, receiving the drawdown if provided, and transferring 16.29% to the Sheriff’s Department; and,
WHEREAS, the purpose of this resolution is to update an existing agreement, originally entered into in 2001, under the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program; and,
WHEREAS, the updated Memorandum of Understanding is a federal requirement to receive a JAG Grant award; and,
WHEREAS, no local match is required.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
THAT, the City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department related to the sharing and implementation of JAG funding under the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, and to carry out any requirements of any grant received.
