PURPOSE:
The purpose of this ordinance is to allow the City Manager to accept a $25,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to purchase and install flood gauges in areas of the City that have experienced flooding.
BACKGROUND:
The grant funding will be used to purchase and install flood gauges that will measure and monitor water levels in rivers, streams, and flood-prone areas to detect potential flooding. The gauges help authorities and residents track rising water levels, enabling early flood warnings, timely evacuations, and effective flood management. Gauges would also assist first responders and emergency utility repair services to make safer decisions to access roads.

Approval of this item will result in an increased revenue of $25,000.
