PURPOSE:
The purpose of this ordinance is to appropriate $2,000 in grant funding for the uplighting of a sculptured art piece to be installed at Riverfront Park, specifically in the Urban Garden. The sculpture is expected to be installed in the Spring of 2025.

BACKGROUND:
Public art was identified as one of the top ten priorities in the Riverfront Park Public Input Survey during the park's master plan development. Appropriation of this grant award will allow the City to increase public art in Riverfront Park.

The City of Wilmington was selected to be a recipient of a grant from the Cape Fear Garden Club ("CFGC") Beautification Endowment Fund, a component fund of the North Carolina Community Foundation, which supports charitable uses in the field of beautification and maintenance of public areas in the City of Wilmington and New Hanover County, North Carolina. The grant award will provide funding for the uplighting of a sculptured art piece, donated by CFGC through its Endowment Program in 2024. The ordinance appropriating $8,150 for the sculpture was adopted by City Council January 23, 2024. The sculpture, commissioned by CFGC and designed by local artist Dumay Gorham, is expected to be installed in the Spring of 2025.
