PURPOSE:

The purpose of this resolution is to request Council approval for the City Manager to submit a grant application to the North Carolina State Energy Office for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (“EECBG”).

BACKGROUND:

The City of Wilmington is in the process of applying to the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality State Energy Office for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (“EECBG”), pursuant to the attached Request for Proposals (“RFP”).  The grant funding will be used to implement energy efficiency improvements in the Skyline Center, based upon recommendations from the recent energy audit performed by Terracon.

The proposed energy efficiency measures will include a LED lighting retrofit, lighting control system upgrades, and building HVAC system improvements.  The attached grant proposal was submitted on Friday December 13, 2024, in order to meet an extended deadline.  Should the City be awarded this grant, energy efficiency gains within the Skyline Center will be an important step in meeting City Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction and Clean Energy Goals.

The requested funding amount is $475,000. Matching funds are not required.
