Attachment #1: Resolution

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this resolution is to declare Canine Officer Jacco as surplus property of the City of Wilmington, and to authorize the City Manager to retire Canine Officer Jacco and transfer Jacco’s ownership to Corporal David Garriques.

BACKGROUND:

The Police Department is seeking to retire Police Canine Jacco for humanitarian reasons due to age. Jacco was purchased by the Wilmington Police Department in 2017 and is nine years old. He has served the department for eight years (8), but due to his age, Canine Officer Jacco is no longer able to continue his duties. Therefore, the Police Department requests that Canine Officer Jacco be retired from active duty, and that ownership of Jacco be transferred to his handler, Corporal David Garriques.
