PURPOSE:

Attached for your consideration is a resolution that directs the City Clerk to investigate the sufficiency of a Petition for Annexation.

BACKGROUND:

This resolution is in association with a requested voluntary contiguous annexation submitted on February 18, 2025, for a parcel of land totaling 8.69 acres and located at 904, 912, and 1000 N. Kerr Avenue.

The property is currently zoned New Hanover County RMF-L, Residential Multi-family Low Density, with no current uses located on the subject property. The applicant has submitted an accompanying request to rezone the subject property to MD-10(CD), Medium-density Multiple-dwelling Residential (Conditional District) for a 79-unit town home development.

If approved, City staff will move forward with evaluating the petition for consistency with the NC General Statutes and the City's annexation policy.  If the request is not approved, the property would remain under New Hanover County's jurisdiction.
