Resolution

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the City Manager to apply for the NCDEQ Resilient Coastal Communities Program grant.

BACKGROUND:

The Resilient Coastal Communities Program grant, sponsored by NCDEQ, facilitates a community-driven process for setting coastal resilience goals, assessing existing and needed local capacity, and identifying and prioritizing projects to enhance community resilience to coastal hazards. Participating communities receive guidance for the development of “shovel-ready” projects. The grant supports local governments in completing a community engagement process, risk, and vulnerability assessment, and developing a resilience project portfolio.

The City of Wilmington will be applying for Phase 1 and Phase 2 funding.

Phase 1: Community Engagement and Risk & Vulnerability Assessment

Phase 2: Planning, Project Selection, and Prioritization
