Resolution

PURPOSE:

The attached resolution is at the request of the Mayor, and states the City of Wilmington, urges the North Carolina Department of Transportation to hold a new public meeting regarding proposed changes to the Eastwood Road and Military Cutoff Road intersection.

BACKGROUND:

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has proposed conversion of the Wilmington intersection at Eastwood Road (U.S. 74) and Military Cutoff Road (U.S. 76/U.S. 17) from an at-grade intersection to an interchange, with a total estimated project cost of $81.4 million.

NCDOT has not hosted a public meeting for community input and questions about this project since June of 2018, nearly seven years ago, during which time significant and important changes in area development and traffic data have occurred.

An additional public meeting would allow our local community an opportunity to provide present-day, relevant feedback concerning the project while allowing NCDOT to address the concerns of residents and business owners impacted by the project.
