Attachment #1: Ordinance

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this ordinance is to appropriate $3,848,752 of supplemental funds to the existing budget for the Dawson and Wooster Streetscape Improvements Project (“Project”).  This will ensure the necessary funds are in place to award a construction contract and to establish an appropriate construction contingency for the Project.

BACKGROUND:

The Project is included in the City’s Transportation Bond Program and spans a length of approximately 0.75 miles on Dawson and Wooster Streets. The improvements in the Project include, but are not limited to, filling in sidewalk gaps, installing curb bump-outs, improving pedestrian and ADA access, and resurfacing Dawson and Wooster Streets between 3rd and 17th Streets. Through a previously executed agreement, NCDOT has agreed to contribute funds for the resurfacing portion of the Project.

Principal benefits of the Project include:

-Providing improvements that will make the City’s primary gateway on Dawson and Wooster

Streets more attractive.

-Maximizing use of public dollars by complementing and expanding upon existing sidewalks.

-Providing healthy and safe options to get exercise and travel.
