PURPOSE:
Passage of this resolution will authorize the purchase of 564 new 800 MHZ Motorola radios for all applicable City departments and divisions, including Police, Fire, Public Works (Streets, Recycling and Trash, and Stormwater), and Traffic Engineering.
BACKGROUND:
The radios that are presently in operation have reached the end of their life cycle and were expected to be replaced as part of the FY27 Annual Budget. However, significant failures and interoperability issues experienced by the Police Department require action to be taken in a timelier manner. Replacing all radios at once will provide cost savings of more than $500,000 via a Motorola-provided discount.

BUDGET IMPACT:
The cost of the radios is $9,135,132. The funding will come from various fund balances to include General Fund and the Fleet Replacement Fund, and installment financing reimbursement via Limited Obligation Bonds, which are all provided for in the accompanying appropriations ordinance.
