Attachment #1: Resolution |
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the City Manager to apply for a Bureau of Justice Assistance (“BJA”) FY25 Body-Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Program (“BWCPIP”) grant in the amount of $339,367 to allow the Wilmington Police Department to purchase for forty-five (45) body-worn cameras and twenty-five (25) point-of-view cameras to outfit all sworn personnel. This funding covers a three-year term.
BACKGROUND:
The BWCPIP supports publicly funded law enforcement and correctional agencies in establishing or expanding BWC programs. Properly implemented BWC programs can strengthen the evidentiary foundation for criminal prosecutions, provide reliable documentation of officer-citizen encounters, and deter assaults on officers.
budget
BUDGET IMPACT:
If awarded, a fifty (50%) local match of $169,684 will be required over the three-year term. Approximately $57,000 of the local match will be required in year one (FY26) and can be covered within the existing budget.
