PURPOSE:
The purpose of this ordinance is to appropriate the proceeds from a Justice Assistance Grant (“JAG”) from the U.S. Department of Justice in the amount of $62,545 to fund a WPD boat lift replacement and a portable camera system for New Hanover County.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Wilmington, along with New Hanover County, were awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, JAG Program in the amount of $62,545. The City’s portion of $52,354 will be used to replace the Police Department’s existing boat lift. This equipment will enhance our ability to safely utilize the department’s safeboat and greatly improve response times in emergency situations. New Hanover County will utilize their portion of $10,191 to purchase a portable camera system to mount in highly vulnerable locations throughout the County to provide the Intel Unit situational awareness. No matching funds are required for this grant.

This ordinance appropriates $62,545 of the Department of Justice, Justice Assistance Grant funding awarded to the City for the use of both the City of Wilmington ($52,345) and New Hanover County ($10,191).
