PURPOSE:
The purpose of this resolution is to agree to sign the Cape Fear Council of Government’s forthcoming joint letter addressed to the Environmental Management Commission, identifying specific concerns related to Fuquay-Varina’s proposed Interbasin Transfer Request.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Wilmington previously passed a resolution formally opposing the Town of Fuquay-Varina’s IBT certificate request and draft Environmental Impact Statement as submitted. The Cape Fear Council of Governments will be submitting a joint letter of opposition on behalf of concerned municipal and county governments in Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, and Pender counties ahead of the April 1, 2026 public comment deadline.
