PURPOSE:

Attached for your consideration is an ordinance to establish a speed limit of 25 mph on Bache Court, Botany Bay Place, Crouch Alley, Erskine Alley, Etherington Alley, Full Sweep Lane, Permit Alley, Provost Alley, Sawgrass Alley, Siddons Drive, Trisail Terrace, Watertaxi Row, Waves Pointe, and Worthylake Run, as shown in Exhibits A and B in the item package.

BACKGROUND:

On May 15, 2018, City Council delegated many items in the traffic schedules to the City Manager for administrative adoption. Setting speed limits was one responsibility retained by City Council. All streets within the City limits default to 35 mph, unless otherwise posted, per N.C.G.S. §20-141(b)(1).

These new roadways were constructed as part of the RiverLights Single Family Phase II & IV projects, which are being introduced concurrently for consideration for official acceptance and City maintenance. A 25 mph speed limit along these roadways is consistent with the recommended speed limits for residential neighborhood streets.
