PURPOSE

The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the City Manager to purchase twenty-five (25) pursuit-rated Tahoes for the scheduled replacement of Wilmington Police Department patrol vehicles.

BACKGROUND:

The vehicles to be replaced have met the age, maintenance cost, mileage, or a combination of the three criteria for replacement. Failure to replace these vehicles will lead to increased maintenance costs and increased patrol vehicle downtime.

The North Carolina State Contract was awarded to Capital Chevrolet, Inc., of Raleigh, North Carolina. They have extended the same prices and terms to the City of Wilmington, totaling $1,325,175. This falls within the state contract exception pursuant to N.C.G.S. §143-129(g), which allows local governments to bypass the standard formal bidding process by leveraging competitive bidding conducted by the State.

BUDGET IMPACT:

The associated cost of $1,325,175 is budgeted in the Fleet Fund for FY26.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

Authorizing the purchase of twenty-five pursuit-rated Tahoes from the Fleet Replacement Fund.
