PURPOSE:

The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract in the amount of $168,400 for repairs and replacement of an HVAC unit at the Wilmington Convention Center.

BACKGROUND:

The Wilmington Convention Center opened in 2011. The HVAC systems installed at the facility have been serviced by Brady Trane Service Inc. (“Brady”) since its opening, and Brady has extensive knowledge and history of the building’s HVAC system critical components, programming and controllers.

This purchase and contract, based on standardization and compatibility, is in accordance with the provision of N.C.G.S. §143-129(e)(6), as a sole-source exception to the competitive requirements of the statute.

The 35-ton unit being replaced services Room 105, the Nutt St corridor, and the Junior Ballroom. This unit has reached its end of life and cannot be repaired; therefore, a total replacement is required.
