Attachment #1: Resolution

PURPOSE

The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the Mayor and Council to be paid bi-weekly instead of monthly. This will improve administrative efficiency for City staff by aligning the payment cycles of the Mayor and City Council members with the pay calendars of full-time employees.

BACKGROUND:

North Carolina General Assembly 1969 Session, House Bill 1261 was ratified in June 1969 and set the salary of the Mayor and Council Members and established a monthly pay schedule. North Carolina General Statute 160A-64 was later codified and repealed the section referenced above, and provided that the City Council may set its own compensation and pay calendar. This resolution is being brought forth to update and revise the pay calendar for the Mayor and City Council Members to be paid bi-weekly.
