PURPOSE:

Attached for your consideration is an ordinance to reduce the speed limit from 35 MPH to 25 MPH on White Oak Drive and Birch Court of the Oak Forest neighborhood at 5300 Greenville Loop Road.

BACKGROUND:

On May 15, 2018, Wilmington City Council delegated several traffic schedule matters to the City Manager to adopt administratively. Speed limits were one aspect retained by Council. All streets within the municipal corporate limits default to 35 MPH unless otherwise, per N.C.G.S. §20-141(b)(1).

The residents of the Oak Forest neighborhood have demonstrated the required consensus to reduce the speed limit from 35 MPH to 25 MPH by submitting the attached petition, as required by the City of Wilmington Neighborhood Traffic Program 25 MPH Speed Limit Reduction Request Policy, approved by City Council on September 7, 2021 (attached).
