PURPOSE

The purpose of this resolution is to renew the City of Wilmington’s third-party workers compensation claims administration contract with Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc. (Sedgwick) for an additional three-year term, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028.

 

BACKGROUND:   

Sedgwick has served as the City’s third-party administrator for workers’ compensation claims since 2019. The company provides comprehensive claims management services, including claims administration, managed care, and return-to-work coordination. Sedgwick’s expertise supports the City’s goals of cost containment, regulatory compliance, and improved outcomes for injured employees and their service to-date has been effective and high in quality.

BUDGET IMPACT:  

The annual fees associated with the contract are as follows:

                     Year 1 (FY26): $46,865

                     Year 2 (FY27): $48,271

                     Year 3 (FY28): $49,719

 

The total cost over the three-year term is $144,855. Additional miscellaneous charges may be incurred in accordance with Sedgwick’s care management fee schedule.  Years 2 and 3 are subject to annual appropriation.

Staff recommends City Council approve the resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a three-year agreement with Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc. for continued workers’ compensation claims administration.
