PURPOSE:
The purpose of this ordinance is to appropriate proceeds in the amount of $20,000 from a Law Enforcement Grant from the New Hanover County Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board to purchase five mobile printers and six radars.
BACKGROUND:
The Wilmington Police Department (WPD) was awarded a grant from the New Hanover County ABC Board in the amount of $20,000. Funding was provided to Law Enforcement Agencies within New Hanover County for the purpose of public safety through enforcement, education, and control of alcohol. WPD will use the award to purchase five mobile printers and six radars. Mobile printers are required when issuing citations through e-citation, including alcohol violations. Radars are a tool used in traffic enforcement for violations such as speeding, which may then result in additional charges, including driving under the influence (DUI) or other alcohol-related offenses.

BUDGET IMPACT:
This ordinance appropriates $20,000 of the New Hanover County ABC Board Law Enforcement Grant funding awarded to the Wilmington Police Department. No matching funds are required.
