LEGISLATIVE INTENT/PURPOSE:
The City of Wilmington wished to submit a grant application to the North Carolina 2010 Recreational Trails Program. These funds will be utilized to assist with funding necessary to construct a walking path and elevated pedestrian boardwalk at Alderman Preserve.
The total estimated cost of the project is $250,000. The grant application amount totals $75,000 and requires matching funds by the City totaling $175,000. Matching funds in the amount of $175,000 will be appropriated from the 2006 Parks and Green Space Bond. The actual appropriation of funds for this grant is pending and will occur once the City has received formal notification that the grant has been awarded and accepted by the City of Wilmington.

The Governor’s Crime Commission has provided an unsolicited grant award totaling $60,000 to the Kids Making It - Vocational Pathways into Society’s Mainstream that will provide training, family support and job placement services to approximately 60-80 at-risk youth. The funding will enable the agency to further develop and provide cutting-edge vocational skills applicable to many jobs, teach job-readiness and life skills, improve self-esteem of youth, assist in developing skills for youth to resolve interpersonal and family problems and improve earning potential income. The federal grant award totals $45,000 with a 25% grant from corporate donations. No local match is required from the City.

The Department will utilize $26,733 to purchase additional Class A uniforms for each uniformed officer in the Department and is an approved, designated use of these funds. These uniforms will be used for funerals, special events, or as a backup to existing uniforms. A quote totaling this amount has been received from the vendor currently under contract with the City to provide uniforms.
